What is this?
Hi, my name is Tom Lazar and I'm a Plone and Zope developer based in Berlin, Germany and this is my personal and professional (no big difference, really...) website.

Captured

Filed Under:

From the Pain-in-the-Ass-Department

A while ago I quietly re-enabled comments for this blog, after shutting them down for receiving up to 40 spam comments per day. And sure enough, I was being hit again at an increasing rate. Meanwhile the spammers had become smart enough, not to target any entries visible on the front page but of course, it still was a royal pain.

Today I tried out PloneCaptcha and while I'm still not entirely convinced of the overall strategy of captchas I must say that I am rather pleased both with PloneCaptcha and the service it uses -- Captchas.net: installation was  a no-brainer and it worked from the start just as advertised. Well done, folks! Although, I do wonder, how many of that spam was actually script-generated... I suspect a large percentage was actually entered manually by some poor folks without a life... time will tell.
