Facing the Facts of Life

Filed Under:

"Oh, sir, it's only a tiny, little, thin one."

While I haven't made a New Years Resolution like Jeff I've still been thinking about my health and diet lately rather a lot... Needless to say, neither are as good as they could (or should) be.

I do have the advantage of having done lots of sports in my teens and early twens. Running, cycling, weightlifting (not bodybuilding!) but I am now at an age where I'm faced with the fact, that if I don't change something soon, I will become fat and unfit...

Having arrived at that conclusion I figured, I'd start with a healthier diet, after all that's the easier part, innit? Turns out, not so... I currently simply have no appetite for healthy stuff at all, but rich, meaty stuff and plain old junk food have got quite an appeal. And Vitamin C alone is just not enough...

And then I realized, that that's just consequent. I mean, what more does a body need, that only walks from one computer to the other? Exactly! And then I remembered the stuff I used to eat, when I still did sports. Right! Yoghurt, muesli and sometimes even gasp! some fruit...

So here it is: I guess I'm gonna have to pick up running again... There I said it! Well, I'll keep you posted ;-)

problem is: healthy food maybe nice on occasions, but it is not in winter. winter requires a high-fat, high-kohlenhydrate(whats the name for it again?) diet. we're all neanderthals, you know? then comes spring. running around in spandex trousers and eating fruit is much more suitable in spring. and: you'll have to cook for a much bigger family now, tasty eintopfs like kartoffelsuppe are value=money and good food! sorry for my pidgin-english, but i wasn't sure if you would understand italian, which is the only true language for food-related topics(+ i haven't seen any mentioning of muesli and stuff in talks about the mediteranean diet...). my husband is also whining about getting fat, but i guess, this is just a sign of coming of age, ain't it ;-) ?

hey nina,

good point ;-) fruit is actually really not good for us Northerners, especially not in winter... Franky, I really don't get, what all the hype about Oranges is, anyway ;-)

and unfortunately, since I've been up again until 4:45 AM fixing a broken mailserver I can't really see myself going running today, either...

Mmmh... you said Eintopf...

So do I! ;-)

Seriously, now that I'm actually in the process of getting back into "being a Runner" I can appreciate your dedication a lot more. Now it's day three after my resolution and I still haven't gone running yet...

Where are those running shoes, anyway?! goes off rummaging through cabinets
