Recently there has been much lamenting regarding the disappearance of through the web (TTW) customization in Plone 3. This is not true.

It is true, that the old way of TTW customization no longer works if the object to be customized is based on a Five browser view and (no longer) a CMF skin template (as is increasingly the case in Plone 3).

However, philikon, alecm and witsch (and probably others) have spent many, many hours on getting TTW customization back into Plone 3. It just seems that nobody has noticed - or that nobody has cared to spread the news...

Either way, just visit /portal_view_customizations/registrations.html of your plone site and voila!

Now, for instance, choose portal.footer:

Click on the customize button:

This should look familiar ;-)

As Donna writes, TTW customization is a 'necessary evil'. And I want to commend philikon and witsch for getting this 'dirty' work done!
