Okay, this geek and his family is off for a week with good friends, lots of snow, mountains, fresh air, alcohol, fire etc. pp. but without internet access. I'll see y'all next year! Thanks for stopping by here, it's been the most fun year blogging and being a nerd - hope to continue that!

Everybody: have a happy new year!

Ditto!

Happy new year Tom! Thanks for all of the great content you published this year. You're definitely one of my top 5 blogs.

Oh, I forgot to mention...

  • Did you realize that your atom feed isn't valid? I use snownews as my rss/rdf reader, and there's an integrated script (atom2rss) that converts atom feeds to rss. Yours never validates, but a lot of other feeds (such as many Blogger and Blogspot blogs) validate perfectly. I know that you've been working on this a lot, so I just wanted to give you a little feedback.
  • Good luck with the comment spam! Do you receive an e-mail message every time that someone makes a comment? This is the only truly effective way that I've found for managing comment spam.

Thanks again!

valid feed, shmalid feed?

Hmmm... check out http://feedvalidator.org/check?url=http://tomster.org/blog/atom-with-comments.xml which shows that it's just fine...? Can you give me any more hints what could be wrong? Perhaps it's the fact, that I've updated the format to be 1.0 compliant and a lot of feed handling apps still implicitly assume/expect 0.3 versions...

regarding the commentspam - no, currently I'm not receiving any notification beyond the RSS-feed (which of course only covers comments made to the most recent 15 entries...)

I'm sure that's something I'll be able to work on during the sprint, though ;-)

Duh

I missed your "Atomic Food" article where you stated that you upgraded from atom 0.3 to 1.0. That's definitely what my snownews extension is choking on. Snownews makes it really easy write extensions; the current atom2rss script simply uses xsltproc to apply an xslt stylesheet to the atom feed. Maybe I'll find the time soon to create a 1.0 version of the atom2rss script.

Thanks!

Thanks Tom, that's a huge compliment for me!
