What is this?
Hi, my name is Tom Lazar and I'm a Plone and Zope developer based in Berlin, Germany and this is my personal and professional (no big difference, really...) website.

What are they smoking?

Filed Under:

As I was reading the Knowledgebase Article to Apple's just-released 10.3.6 update I wondered, whether they had also released a combo-update for the Server version, as well and out of a whim, simply increased the article-number in the URL, hoping that the following article would be about that.

No, it isn't. Instead, article number 300082 is about "iMac G5: Benefit of using matching memory modules (RAM)". After giving a somewhat goofy sounding explanation the 'article' concludes with this priceless gem of tech-writing:

Whoa?! If that technical stuff sounds scary, don't worry. There's an easy way to make sure they match. Just buy your DIMMs at the same time as a matching pair, like socks.

But wait, that's not all! Not giving up so soon, I increased the article number once more and lo! and behold! Here's what I saw:

Do you use Fast User Switching along with the Screen Saver password feature? If so, when the computer wakes from sleep and is switched to a different user, it will probably go back to sleep within a minute. Don't worry, your computer isn't a "sleepyhead". All you need to do is wake it up again.

Hello? *Sigh*... I guess, the days that Apple was a respectable computer manufacturer are definitely over now with Knowledgebase articles apparently being targeted at 15-year-old former Windows users who bought their first Mac after getting an iPod for their birthday. Call me arrogant, but not much longer and we'll be weeping for the long-gone-days of blissful 2.x percent marketshare...
