Fingerprint proxy
Frank has just released a short documentary on how easy it is to fake a fingerprint. It's discussed more in depth in the aforementioned article and here as well, but it really does seem more believable if you see it in action.
The desk is btw. the very place where we actually do most of the layout of the magazine. I've never seen it so tidy ;-)
In case you're wondering why we're stressing the point so much, of how easy it is to fake fingerprints: it's to demonstrate that the whole pending issue of whether or not to introduce biometric data in identity-documents such as passports etc. is really not about increasing security (as the politicians try to tell us) but rather to increase control over the population. Call me paranoid, but at least watch the friggin movie ;-)

Ein paar Kritikpunkte haette ich allerdings:
#1 Man sieht der Mate-Flasche sehr genau an, dass sie an der relvanten Stelle "vorbehandelt" ist in dem Sinne: Gereinigt und bereit, einen "guten Fingerabdruck" aufzunehmen!
#2 Die Biometrie-Mouse samt dazugehoeriger Software ist wohl kaum geeignet, die grundsaetzliche Unsicherheit heutiger State-of-Art-Systeme zu beweisen! Das ist doch albern...
#3 Man sieht, dass die auf den Finger geklebte Folie inkl. Holzleim "durchsichtig" ist! Welcher Fingerabdruck wird da genommen... Also "was wird vom Biometrie-Sensor eigentlich abgenommen"?
Ich begruesse den aufklaerenden Willen dieser Dokumentation! Allerding sehe ich nicht, was man damit beweisen kann; vielleicht glaube ich es ja, wenn ich es auf dem 21C3 sehe:)
