What is this?
Hi, my name is Tom Lazar and I'm a Plone and Zope developer based in Berlin, Germany and this is my personal and professional (no big difference, really...) website.

Statistically Speaking

Filed Under:

"Never trust a statistic you haven't faked yourself" (ancient German proverb)

It's now well over half time for my little blogging experiement. (In early December I have committed myself to blog daily for three months). I must admit, that I have failed miserably in regard to the daily premise, but actually I'm quite satisfied anyway. I just know, that it would have been a great deal less, had I not set the bar this high!

Some time towards the end of December I couldn't stand the suspense any longer: I wanted to know if(!) and how many people were actually reading this blog and site and activated a log file and installed an analysis tool .

And now, come February first, I've got the first full month of statistical data. Yippi! And to be honest, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised: the average number of daily visits has settled in at 200 with the daily pageviews just a bit over 1000! Now, of course, that is nothing compared to blogs such as Schockwellenreiter let alone heavy-weights such as boing boing but considering, that I've only told a couple of friends, that ain't too shabby... And actually, most of my friends don't even bother reading it - except for those, who've got a blog for themselves... ;-) (this means, I've still actually got to tell some of my friends what's been going on in my life, when we meet! Oh, well...)

The major contributor to pageviews are definitely RSS readers (40% of all pageviews) and people reading the zope/plone chapter of my FreeBSD Cookbook (612 views).

Well, at any rate, it does feel nice to know, that I've actually got an audience and don't just write this for myself ;-) And also, it's a motivation to come up with more interesting stuff, such as software tips or reviews, I've become a bit lazy in that department lately... Well, let's see, what I'm up to tomorrow ;-)
